Meridens Got Moved today and were SINGING...

Okay... they were NOT happy to get moved from the Dining Room to the Family Room/Dog Room and were hollering at first. "Hey, we don't belong back here"... "you made a mistake"... "we liked being in the Dining Room, what was wrong with that?"
They are now in an xpen in my Family Room with quick access to potty in xpens on the deck. They did like going outside on the deck and looking around, exploring. After "cookies" (they get kibble when they go back into the xpen) they are now taking a nap while a radio plays softly. Wish I could take a nap too! : )

Four Week Pictures!

Hey Momma Julia says we did pretty good posing for four week pictures at our very young age. A couple of the girls were wanting to hunker down in the front and try to nurse on the cheese stick, but got better after they realized they were to bite and chew the cheese.
Nice looking shoulder and rear angles on these kids. Nice bodies and toplines. Now they hopefully will all grow into themselves.
You can see the Four Week Stack Photos at: http://www.jlsdals.com/MeridenWeek4.html

Moved out...

Our turn to get moved out of Mom's bedroom and down to the dining room. Mom is happy she won't have to go up and down the stairs all day and all night long!
We also ate our first puppy gruel yesterday...YUM!

2 1/2 Weeks old... and growing

Eyes are all now open. They are so adorable and so very loving at such a young age. They come to my voice and love to be caressed on their cheeks and under their chins. Here are a few new pictures of them nursing. I tried to get video of them crawing, toddling all over but it came out too dark. We shall see if they still come to my voice afer I trim nails today... LOL.

2 Weeks Old Yesterday...

Pups are 2 weeks old and eyes are cracking open. Girl 2 has one eye open and one closed. They are getting big, looking very healthy and starting to get mobile. Soon they will be up on their feet and running around. Spotting is starting to show up.

Okay, finally a new picture!

1 Week old!

Puppies were 1 week old yesterday! All are doing really great. There are some real movers who crawl with big strides and in straight lines across the whelping box... no joke. I already have my favorites at this point... that I will be looking forward to seeing if they grow into the potential I see at this young age.
Still just mainly white with trim on noses and eye rims filled in... but will get an updated photo of them today.

All is going very well...

Vet check and dew claws removed yesterday at 2 days old. My vet was surprised and pleased at how vigourous these puppies were at only 2 days old. Not a sluggish or weak one in the bunch. I told him he should see them crawl all over the whelping box and swarm to Momma Merica when it is MILK time! : ) They are 100% Chow Hounds like their Grandmother Starlet!

Go!!!

Merica had her puppies starting this morning at 10:30 a.m. and was done by 1:30 p.m. She started out with 2 boys... and I was thinking keep the boys coming! Wouldn't that be COOL if she had all boys since Taffy had all girls.... WRONG! Merica had 2 boys and FIVE Girls! LOL!
All are healthy and consistent in size. Good job little Miss America and a cigar shaped bone for Daddy Caden!

Set...

No puppies yet as of 7:14 a.m. but they should be making their debut soon! Merica went out to potty at 6:45 and part of the mucoid plug came out! Making progress after a long night of her panting and fussing. Puppies should start coming in the next couple of hours...

Getting Ready....

Merica went into the whelping box in the wee hours of the morning and started moving blankets around...no ripping or shredding... just rearranging. She then jumped into bed with me and would breath heavy on and off. No panting. I could feel puppies moving around in there...things are getting ready. She has had her breakfast and is now just laying quietly by my side at the computer. She is acting more serious and has that look in her eye that very small contractions are going on, although they are not visible to the eye and she is not panting.

Here she is pictured yesterday at 58 days from mating.

Merica the Amazing Beach Ball?

Merica is getting big... but will she continue to expand until she looks like a beach ball with legs like her mother Starlet did? Ony two weeks (or a bit less) to go...

Bigger and bigger...

Merica is getting bigger and bigger. She has 2 1/2 weeks yet to go but is getting very quiet and serious. Her tummy has dropped some. I think she will come early as we bred at the tail end of her breedable time, but it still should be 2 weeks to go, I hope!

Merica is very mad because she got kicked out of my bedroom and now has to sleep on the couch. Taffy is up there in the whelping box with her puppies. Merica thinks she should still be able to sleep with me. Taffy is so relaxed with this litter, and Merica and she are best buddies, but I will give her a few more days with no interlopers even close to her den.

Merica's turn will be next and then Taffy will be mad... my sweet little brown girls... they are the best.

She's definitely PG!

She's definitely getting bigger and hungier all the time. Merica has three and a half weeks to go but she thinks she is feeding an army now. She takes after her mother Starlet who was the all time top chow hound, and loved her cookies!

Merica will put her two front paws up on the counter and rest her head on the edge and just STARE at the ripe tomotoes sitting at the very back where she can't reach them. Then she gets impatient and BARKS! real loud and then goes back to staring and drooling. She loves those tomatoes.
